A hopper collects them under your name and drives them over, tracked by GPS the whole way, with text updates and a photo confirmation when it reaches you. The menu price is the price — no item markups, no service fees.
The plate lunch is one of the few restaurant formats that was designed to be eaten somewhere else. It came off lunch wagons and out of plantation kitchens in Hawaii: a protein, two scoops of white rice, and a scoop of macaroni salad, portioned into compartments so a working person could carry it and eat it away from a counter. Most takeout is a dining-room meal squeezed into a box after the fact. This one was never a dining-room meal to begin with, which is why it holds together on a drive better than most restaurant takeout manages to. The family packs work the same way at a larger size, and kalbi is the plate most people would make the trip for anyway — a good reason to let somebody else make it.
