Rubio's exists because of one item. Ralph Rubio brought the beer-battered fish taco back from Baja and opened a San Diego shop to sell it in 1983, and it is still the thing most orders are built around. It is also the item with the least patience for a long trip: battered fish goes soft in a closed container well before grilled fish, shrimp, or a bowl does. Short route, order what you actually want. Longer one, the grilled half of the menu is the safer pick, and timing the pickup to the restaurant's ready time matters more than anything else you can control.
